Brazoria County Tax Assessor-Collector Ro’Vin Garrett announced she has begun mailing the BetterRxCard to county residents. Now, Brazoria residents can save money on prescription drugs at local pharmacies and find lower-cost drug options through our online EquivaMeds service.

 “It is important for our residents to look for these cards within their motor vehicle registration renewal and not throw them away. This card could save them a lot of money,” says Garrett.

Remember, one card may be used by an entire family, there are no income prerequisites and no spending requirements.

In December, 1,500 residents tried the card and 1,100 saved an average of $25 per prescription just by handing it to the pharmacist at the checkout counter.

2) Best Discounts — Every discount drug card has a pharmacy benefit vendor that performs the claims processing and provides the pharmacy network. Most have selected a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) as the basis for their card programs. After reviewing dozens of PBM offers we chose not to use a PBM at all. Instead, we chose the new and different breed known as a pharmacy benefit administrator (PBA).

Unlike PBMs, PBAs do not have direct relationships with pharmaceutical companies, eliminating rebate controversy or secretive payments for operating special programs for which compensation is received. PBAs are paid only a small administrative fee for adjudicating the claim. This helps keep systemic costs under control while providing a lower cost at the pharmacy for the cardholder.
